We all make garbage. Have you ever wondered where it goes?
The City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Department is offering a free public tour opportunity at Washington State’s only Waste to Energy Facility located at 2900 S. Geiger Boulevard.
This tour is for Waste Ambassadors and their families.
Visitors will learn how garbage moves from the tipping floor to the claw, then to the boiler. Explore where we burn trash at temperatures reaching 2,000 degrees and harness steam to generate enough electricity to power 13,000 homes!
If you have ever wondered what happens to that garbage after you toss it, now is your chance!
Visitors must wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather as there is some walking outdoors.
This tour is most appropriate for adults and children 6yrs and older. All participants must have the ability to wear PPE including head, eye, and ear protection (provided by the tour guide). Infants and toddlers are not permitted. Reservation required.
