Who We Are

We are a group of creative, passionate people who believe there are low-waste or waste free solutions for almost every aspect of daily life. We work to build a more resilient community through education, modeling and advocating for low waste actions and policies.

What We Do

Mend It Cafe is a repair cafe where skilled volunteer menders fix clothing and other textiles for community members at no cost. This is our way of modeling an different economic system while reducing textile waste. Mend-It Cafe takes place monthly from March-October at various locations in the Spokane region. You can request a Cafe to come to your business, community center, or event.

ReCraft LAB: This project trains and employs immigrant and refugee women in the sewing trades. All of our production uses textiles and other flexible materials collected before they become waste. The vision is to have a trained workforce and the systems in place to build a regional textile industry that makes use of existing waste materials as an intermediary step towards an industry that supports the farming and processing of natural materials.

UpCycle Fashion Lab: Public classes in sewing, mending and making We are empowering people with a useful skill that supports reuse and repair over replacement thereby keeping textile waste out of landfills and incineration.  We teach both youth and adults.

Legislative Action: We organize to support legislation that reduces waste in materials from single-use plastics to e-waste.
